The Alonzo hard fork

Alonzo went live in September 2021 and brought smart contracts to Cardano: from then on, Plutus scripts could lock and unlock funds on mainnet. It was named after Alonzo Church, whose lambda calculus is the root of the functional languages Cardano is built with.
